"Abortion will never be overcome without penance and sacrifice and that's what this campaign is all about."

By Thaddeus M. Baklinski

OTTAWA, September 22, 2008 (LIfeSiteNews.com) - The third internationally coordinated 40 Days for Life event will kick off its Ottawa campaign with a rally on Parliament Hill between 7 and 9 PM on Tuesday September 23rd, followed by a candlelight procession from Parliament Hill to the Morgentaler abortion clinic, 65 Bank Street (corner of Bank and Sparks, close to Parliament), where the 40 day around-the-clock vigil will begin.

40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life effort that consists of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil and community outreach.

Ottawa Campaign Director Nicole Campbell is urging as many people as possible to come to the Kick Off Rally and the procession from Parliament Hill on Sept. 23, and to sign up for a few hours of peaceful public witness outside the abortion mill.

"As people here in Ottawa join with others from across the country to pray and fast and take courageous action for 40 days to end the tragic violence of abortion, we look forward to seeing what kind of transformation God will bring about in our city and throughout Canada," Nicole said.

David Bereit, US National Campaign Director of 40 Days for Life, said more than 170 cities in the US and Canada will take part in this massive pro-life effort from September 24 through November 2 this year.

"We may be on the verge of a turning point in the battle against abortion," said Mr. Bereit. "Response to our call for communities to participate in this fall's 40 Days for Life campaign has exceeded our wildest expectations."

The 40 Days for Life campaign information gives powerful expression to the motivation behind this phenomenally successful movement:

"The battle against abortion has always been a spiritual battle. … Abortion will never be overcome without penance and sacrifice and that's what this campaign is all about. So, in the early hours in the morning, through the cold, the rain, through the occasional insult, sometimes alone, sometimes with others, always surrounded by the heavenly angelic host, we engage in the most important battle that has ever been waged in the history of mankind - the battle for life itself."
