I hate getting up at 5:30 am.
But by going so early, I'd be back early, too and my kids wouldn't miss me.
I got off the bus downtown and walked in the dark on Rideau Street.
I think the dark was a pertinent metaphor for our situation on abortion.
And just then the Peace Tower started to chime: BONG.
Time to wake up.
And the sun started to rise.
I hope that we can slowly lift the darkness over abortion.
I arrived at Ground Zero and there was Renee and Teresa.
Three people praying against abortion at 7:00 am on a Saturday. Small wonders.
We prayed the rosary, and after a while I had to start walking. I was very well dressed: I had a winter coat, a sweater, a tuque and a good pair of gloves. But it was raining. The humidity went right through the bone.
If I had to give you one piece of advice it's this: aside from dressing up, make sure you wear a warm pair of shoes. Wear boots if you have to. Because even with all those layers, if your feet are cold, the rest of you will be.
It was entirely uneventful. But I was tired after an hour, when normally I could go for two hours. I couldn't hack it, and I knew that my kids would need me. At the end of the hour, Eric arrived, then John, who's in charge of the bin. Eric held down the fort when it was time for Teresa, Renee and I to leave.
Teresa kindly drove me home. As I slipped out of the car, she asked me to pray for Renee.
Renee's family is facing deportation.
Please pray for her family.
